Storyline
The film revolves around Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio), a skilled thief who specializes in entering people’s dreams and stealing their secrets. Cobb is hired by a wealthy businessman named Saito (Ken Watanabe) to perform an inception – planting an idea in someone’s mind instead of stealing one. The target is Robert Fischer (Cillian Murphy), the son of a dying business magnate, whose company Saito wants to acquire.
Cobb assembles a team of experts: Arthur (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), the point man and planner; Ariadne (Elliot Page), the architect who designs the dreamscapes; Eames (Tom Hardy), the forger who can impersonate people in the dream world; and Yusuf (Dileep Rao), the chemist who provides the necessary chemicals for the dream-sharing technology.
The team’s mission is to convince Fischer to break up his father’s company, thereby allowing Saito to acquire it. However, Cobb’s tragic past, particularly his guilt over the death of his wife Mal (Marion Cotillard), complicates the operation. The team must navigate multiple levels of dreams within dreams, known as shared dreaming, to achieve their goal.
