Key Plot Points
The Mysterious Textbook:
Harry discovers an old Potions textbook that once belonged to someone known as The Half-Blood Prince. The book contains helpful notes and spells that significantly aid Harry in his Potions class, making him an expert brewer and earning him a vial of Felix Felicis, a luck potion.
Draco’s Mission:
Draco Malfoy, son of Lucius Malfoy, is chosen by Voldemort to carry out a secret mission at Hogwarts. His mother, Narcissa, and aunt Bellatrix Lestrange convince Severus Snape to make an Unbreakable Vow to protect Draco, which adds to the complexity of Snape’s character.
Slughorn’s Memory:
Dumbledore asks Harry to retrieve a crucial memory from Horace Slughorn, a retired Potions professor. This memory contains information about young Voldemort and his creation of Horcruxes. Harry joins the Slug Club to gain access to Slughorn and eventually retrieves the memory, which helps in understanding Voldemort’s past.
Ron’s Poisoning:
During a visit to Slughorn, Ron accidentally ingests a love potion intended for Harry. After curing Ron, Slughorn offers both boys some mead, which Ron drinks and is subsequently poisoned. Harry’s quick thinking saves Ron, and this incident leads to the end of Ron’s relationship with Lavender Brown.
Dumbledore’s Death:
The climax of the movie revolves around Dumbledore’s death at the hands of Severus Snape. Despite his hesitation, Draco fails to kill Dumbledore, and Snape ultimately casts the killing curse. This event leaves Harry devastated and resolves to find and destroy all remaining Horcruxes.
Horcruxes:
The story delves deeper into the concept of Horcruxes, magical objects containing pieces of a wizard’s soul for immortality. Harry and Dumbledore learn that Voldemort has created seven Horcruxes, with two already destroyed: Tom Riddle’s diary and Marvolo Gaunt’s ring.
