Bullitt: A Detailed Description of the Movie
Storyline
Bullitt is a 1968 American crime action thriller film directed by Peter Yates, based on the 1963 novel Mute Witness by Robert L. Fish. The film stars Steve McQueen as Lieutenant Frank Bullitt, a nonconformist San Francisco police officer tasked with guarding mob informant Johnny Ross (Pat Renella) over the weekend. The assignment comes at the request of Senator Walter Chalmers (Robert Vaughn), who is chairing the subcommittee on crime before which Ross is scheduled to testify.
The plot thickens when Ross is mysteriously killed on his watch, and Bullitt sets out to find the murderers and clear his reputation. As the investigation unfolds, it becomes clear that the dead man was not Johnny Ross but a doppelgänger named Albert Renick, who had assumed another identity to leave the country. This revelation leads to a race to the airport and a final shoot-out that leaves the mobster dead.
